Partnering with businesses in the community can benefit WRC as well as local businesses. WRC has been warmly embraced by Tom and Tami Crowley, owners of Artists and Heirlooms Art Gallery at 115 Historic 25th Street. When Tami heard about our fledgling non-profit corporation, she approached board member Stacie Peck to suggest that WRC participate in the monthly First Friday Gallery Strolls. Stacie and Brody Barney presented a program with Gidget, a northern saw-whet owl at Artists and Heirlooms during the April stroll to test the waters. It was such a success, that Tami invited Stacie to return in May for the First Friday Gallery Stroll, with Chitters, a great horned owl, or Sampson, a red-tailed hawk, for a program.
Tami explains that her interest in helping was brought about when one day her “macho” 12-year-old son and his friend were playing ball. They noticed that the branches of a bush were moving. Upon discovering that a small bird had become entangled in the evergreen shrub's branches, the boys’ hearts melted and they were distressed not knowing how best to help the bird. They carefully removed the bird and after calling Tami’s friend Stacie, learned that they should take it to the Ogden Nature Center bird rehabilitation facility. Tami says that she was grateful that there was an organization that could help, and she wants to know that similar help will be available in the future.
Tami dedicated the May gallery stroll to bird-related art. Although all the fine art at the gallery is available for purchase, artists have donated 15 pieces for sale through a silent auction. Bidding starts today, May 1st, and ends June 5, 2009. 100% of proceeds from the silent auction will be donated to WRC and twenty percent of sales from the other paintings on display will also be donated. WRC is planning on participating with Artists and Heirlooms (soon to be renamed Crowley & Wilkerson Galleries) at the June gallery stroll at which Historic 25th Street will feature an antique car show.
Tami’s help hasn’t stopped at the gallery’s door, however. She has been instrumental in helping the WRC staff make contacts in the Ogden City mayor’s office and the Historic 25th Street Association. WRC is grateful for this wonderful partnership with Artists and Heirlooms.
