Gordon Marthaler ended his days in the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Annalu and Stuart Farber with the support of Franciscan Hospice. He was surrounded by his family as they shared stories, love and humor. Gordon had two great passions in his long life: his wife of 64 years, Betty Ruth (Wilcox) Marthaler and woodworking. His first love, Betty, was waiting on the gangplank in San Diego as Gordon returned from duty in the US Navy during WWII. She was there to claim his hand in marriage before he got any ideas about touring the country on a motorcycle. They returned to Burien, Washington where they bought a home and had three children, Marty (James) Marthaler, Annalu (Marthaler, Baggenstos) Farber and Buz (Ray) Marthaler. Gordon had a long and successful career in property/casualty insurance, starting in sales and eventually becoming an insurance underwriter and manager. In 1957 the family moved to a new home in Lynnwood where Gordon and his father built a woodworking shop which allowed him to indulge his second love in his spare time. He created fine pieces of furniture, art objects, toys and more and enjoyed gifting them to the people he loved. Gordon loved boating, fishing, playing games, a cold martini, an occasional pipe and the Seahawks. He and Betty were original Seahawk season ticket holders. In the years since Betty’s passing (2009), it was family that sustained Gordon. This March it was his great joy to witness the marriage of his youngest son, Buz Marthaler to DaLyn Erickson Marthaler in the Farber home. Gordon is also held in love by his daughter-in-law, Pam Marthaler, his seven grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and long time friends.
